Mackenzie Solutions Ltd is a UK company providing the services of the XML Consultant Colin Mackenzie.
Colin is an consultant expert in XML, XSL, structured information, content management and publishing with 30 years experience in document computing and structured information. Colin has designed and developed many XML Schemas, complex XSLT stylesheets and full XML content management, translation and delivery systems for leading clients in many industry sectors.
Colin has extensive experience in the field of commercial publishing, corporate publishing (technical and Government publications), newspaper and desktop publishing. Colin worked on a number of Government and Local Government initiatives (including the creation of over 50 schemas covering Licensing information) and sat on the Government Schema Group recommending schema standards for the exchange of information between Government systems.
Colin was the original schema developer for the complex "OneApp" XML Schema designed to replace over 100 different paper and electronic forms for planning applications (used to exchange information between industry, local and national government for over 400,000 applications a year). The schema was designed to re-use existing Government and geographic schema components and follow industry best practice.
As a director of Limehouse Software , Colin also designed a cloud-based system for document publishing and community engagement used by hundreds of local government clients across three continents. This innovative solution provided a browser-based interface to allow business users who were not expert in XML or publishing to collaboratively author document structures and re-usable information components then publish them to print, web and to a citizen engagement portal to enable members of the public to provide structured feedback on the document and on its contents. XML was used behind the scenes for the document structures, component contents and for the user-designed forms that gathered the feedback for documents and surveys. Colin also acted as the public figurehead for the company, speaking at conferences and engaging with customers and prospects at all levels.
Colin has also provided technology and XML consultancy to companies and organisations such as the Crown Prosecution Service, Shell, the Ministry of Defence and many leading commercial publishers covering data sources including UK legislation, multi-lingual dictionaries, aircraft maintenance manuals, an Encyclopedia of Philosophy and criminal case information.
One of his main strengths is the ability to communicate easily with both technical and non-technical staff in order to provide a solution that meets the business need.
